Picture Day Tips

Everything you need for picture day success

A little preparation goes a long way on picture day. Whether you're a parent, teacher, or administrator, these tips will help ensure great photos and a smooth experience for everyone.

Tips for Parents

Choose the Right Outfit

  • Solid colors work best - Jewel tones (blue, green, burgundy) and earth tones photograph beautifully
  • Avoid busy patterns - Stripes, plaids, and loud prints can be distracting
  • Skip the logos - Brand names and graphics date photos quickly
  • Layers add interest - A cardigan or vest can add depth to the photo
  • Comfort matters - Kids who feel good photograph better

The Night Before

  • Lay out the outfit - Reduces morning stress and forgotten items
  • Check for wrinkles - A quick press makes a difference
  • Trim bangs if needed - But don't try a whole new haircut!
  • Early bedtime - Well-rested kids look and feel better
  • Talk about it positively - Build excitement, not anxiety

Morning Of

  • Good breakfast - But not too messy right before photos
  • Brush hair simply - Avoid elaborate styles that may fall apart
  • Clean face - Quick wipe, moisturizer if needed
  • Check teeth - After breakfast, quick brush or rinse
  • Positive send-off - "Have fun at pictures today!"

Help Them Smile Naturally

  • Practice at home - Take a few fun selfies together
  • Avoid "say cheese" - It creates forced smiles
  • Think happy thoughts - Tell them to think of something funny
  • Relax the shoulders - Tension shows in photos
  • Trust the photographer - We know how to get genuine smiles!

  • Send reminder notices home to parents
  • Note any students who need accommodations

  • Identify students who may be anxious

On Picture Day

  • Arrive at your scheduled time
  • Quick hair/clothing check as students line up
  • Keep the line calm and orderly
  • Stay positive - your energy affects the kids

Helpful Reminders

  • We handle nervous or reluctant students
  • No paperwork for you to manage
  • Parents order online - no packets to distribute
  • Direct questions to us, not you!

What to Avoid on Picture Day

New haircuts

Get haircuts at least a week before so they look natural

White or neon colors

White washes out; neon reflects onto skin

Temporary tattoos or face paint

Save these for after pictures

Brand new glasses

Make sure they're adjusted properly first

Sleepless nights

Dark circles and tired eyes show in photos

Stressful mornings

A calm start leads to better expressions
